The problem
Ovens inoperable, gas odor present, and control knob detached
The repair
Replaced main oven igniter and burner, cooktop gas valve, and small oven safety valve
The result
Fully restored appliance functionality
Customer Complaint and Possible Causes
The customer reported that the primary oven was inoperable, a gas odor was noticeable, and a control knob had detached. These symptoms can stem from worn igniters, deteriorated burner assemblies, compromised gas valves, or leaking internal gas line connections.
Diagnosis and Findings
Testing confirmed that the main oven’s bake igniter was defective, accompanied by metal burnout on the bake burner due to age. Inspection of the detached knob revealed a fractured valve body held by a single screw. Using a gas leak detector, technicians traced the gas odor to a micro-leak in the safety gas valve of the small left oven, which failed to seal properly in standby mode.
Repair Performed
The technician replaced the main oven’s bake igniter and bake burner assembly, the compromised cooktop burner gas valve, and the safety gas valve on the small left oven to eliminate potential safety hazards and restore proper gas control.
Verification and Outcome
Our technician confirmed that the repair successfully resolved all reported issues, completely restoring the range’s operational capability and eliminating the gas odor.
