The problem
Oven lacked power and stopped working due to overheating
The repair
Replaced the high-limit and oven thermostats
The result
Verification passed and overheating did not return
Customer Complaint and Possible Causes
The customer reported that the Viking range oven was not working and had lost all power after a severe overheating incident. When an oven overheats, it usually triggers a safety device like a high-limit thermostat to cut power, or it can point to a failing temperature control thermostat that keeps heating past the set point.
Diagnosis and Findings
We checked the operation and found that the high-limit thermostat had tripped due to the previous overheating. We also found that the oven thermostat was misreading temperatures and continuing to heat past the set point. To confirm this, we used a bypass to test the oven thermostat and verified it was failing.
Repair Performed
We removed the faulty parts and installed a new high-limit thermostat and a new oven thermostat to get the unit back in safe working order.
Verification and Outcome
We checked and tested the operation after the replacement. The verification passed successfully, and the overheating issue did not return.
